Glass interior doors: types, prices and how to choose in 2026

28 April 2026 6 min read

Why choose glass doors?

Glass doors are more than an aesthetic accent. Compared to wooden or plastic doors, glass offers three key advantages: natural light spreads across the whole panel, a visual link between spaces is preserved even between separated rooms, and maintenance is minimal: glass doesn't absorb moisture, doesn't swell, and doesn't need repainting. Average service life is 25-30 years.

4 main types of glass doors

1. Hinged glass doors

The classic solution — doors open on hinges, like ordinary ones. Suitable when there is enough space for the door swing (~80-90 cm). Available as frameless (without a frame) or with an aluminium frame. Prices start from €250 for a basic frameless panel with standard hardware.

2. Sliding glass doors

The doors slide along the wall or hide inside the wall (pocket variant). Ideal for narrow spaces — corridors, near kitchens, walk-in wardrobes. We distinguish wall-mounted (visible track — cheaper, from €450) and wall-concealed (Pocket system — from €900, but the wall must be prepared during construction).

3. Folding (accordion) doors

Several narrow panels fold to one side. Suitable for wide openings (1.5-4 m), terraces, office partitions. Price — from €700 per metre.

4. Pivot doors

The door rotates around a central axis (not on hinges). An architectural statement — often used for main entrances and large spaces. Panels can reach up to 1.2 m wide and 3 m tall. Price from €1,100.

Glass thickness and safety

For interior doors we use 8 mm tempered glass as standard, and 10 mm when the door height exceeds 2.2 m or width exceeds 1 m. Tempered glass is 4-5 times stronger than ordinary glass and, when broken, shatters into small harmless cubes. Complies with the EN 12150-1 standard.

Hardware — where the quality difference lies

Hardware brand often matters more than the glass itself. Trusted: Dorma, Geze, CCE, JNF. Hinges should withstand at least 200,000 opening cycles. For sliding doors, a smooth track with a soft-close mechanism (which slows the door before closing) is essential. Cheap hardware starts squeaking and sticking after 2-3 years.

Glass door prices in 2026 (Lithuania)

Typical prices including installation, tempered glass and mid-range hardware:

  • Frameless hinged: €250-550
  • Wall-mounted sliding: €450-900
  • Pocket sliding: €900-1,500
  • Folding: €700-1,200 per m
  • Pivot doors: €1,100-2,500

Price depends on: dimensions, glass finish (frosted ~10% more, patterns ~25% more), hardware grade and transport to the regions.

FAQ

Do glass doors insulate sound well?

Standard 8 mm tempered glass insulates around 28-32 dB. For better results (40+ dB), a double glazed unit or VSG (laminated) glass with an acoustic interlayer is used. This matters in meeting rooms and bedrooms.

Can the doors be decorated?

Yes — frosting (sandblasted patterns), printing (UV or ceramic ink), bands. The Stiklo sprendimai team offers custom patterns based on your sketch.

How long does installation take?

Standard hinged — 2-4 hours. Sliding doors with the Pocket system require wall preparation in advance (~1 day at the construction stage); the door installation later takes 3-5 hours. Once dimensions are agreed, manufacturing takes 7-14 working days.
