Balcony and Terrace Glass Railings in Lithuania 2026 — Types and Prices

4 July 2026

Glass railings for balconies and terraces are one of the fastest-growing requests in Lithuanian home renovation. Unlike traditional metal or concrete balcony railings, glass does not block the view, makes the space feel larger, and suits almost any architectural style — from Soviet-era flat balconies to brand new private house terraces.

Can You Add Glass Railings to an Existing Balcony?

Yes. Glass railings can be installed on both existing balconies and new construction. The key requirement for a floor channel (U-profile) system is a concrete slab of at least 100–120 mm thickness. For older balconies, we carry out a structural assessment before installation. Post-mounted systems can work with thinner slabs as the load is distributed differently.

Types of Balcony Glass Railing Systems

Floor Channel (U-Profile) System

The most elegant option: glass is inserted into a narrow metal channel fixed to the balcony floor. No visible side clamps or posts — only a thin metal strip at the base. The result is almost invisible. This system works with 10–12 mm toughened glass and is the most popular choice for private homes and penthouses in Lithuania.

Point-Fixed Clamp System

Stainless steel clamps grip the glass at specific points. This is a slightly more industrial look but is structurally very robust and well-suited to high-rise balconies or terraces where wind loads are a concern. Clamps are available in polished chrome, brushed steel, or matte black.

Aluminium Frame System

A fully framed system using aluminium posts and a top rail. The most weather-resistant option — ideal for exposed terraces or seaside properties (Klaipeda, Palanga, Nida). The frame also makes it easier to add a safety handrail or integrate LED strip lighting.

Glass Specification for Balcony Railings

For balconies and outdoor terraces we always recommend toughened safety glass (10–12 mm) conforming to EN 12150. For heights above 3 floors or areas where people gather below the balcony, laminated glass (8+8 mm or 10+10 mm VSG) is strongly recommended — it stays in place even if cracked. Hardware: always specify AISI 316 stainless steel for outdoor use in Lithuania's climate (freezing winters, UV in summer).
