Acoustic Glass Partitions for Office — How They Work and What They Cost
Open-plan offices are great for collaboration but notoriously difficult for focus work and confidential conversations. Acoustic glass partitions offer the best of both worlds: the visual openness of glass with sound reduction that actually works. Here is everything you need to know about acoustic glass partition systems for offices in Lithuania.
When Does an Office Really Need Acoustic Partitions?
Not every partition project needs premium acoustic performance. Standard 10 mm toughened glass in a floor channel gives around 30–32 dB Rw, which is often enough for basic visual separation. But if you need a partition for: HR or legal discussions, executive cabinets where phone calls should not be overheard, recording/media studios, or meeting rooms in a noisy open-plan office — then you need a certified acoustic specification.
Acoustic Performance Levels for Office Partitions
Acoustic reduction is measured in Rw (dB) — the weighted sound reduction index. Here is what different levels mean in practice:
30–34 dB: Noticeably quieter. Normal speech is muffled. Suitable for basic office separation.
35–38 dB: Good for most meeting rooms. Loud speech and phone calls are significantly reduced.
40–45 dB: Excellent. Suitable for HR rooms, executive offices, medical consultation rooms.
45+ dB: Premium acoustic partitions. Used in recording studios, legal offices, and spaces requiring GDPR-level conversation privacy.
How Acoustic Glass Partitions Achieve Higher Ratings
Several techniques are used to boost acoustic performance beyond standard glass: double-glazing (two glass panes with an air or gas-filled gap), acoustic laminated glass with a PVB interlayer that damps vibration, heavier glass (thicker = better sound blocking), acoustic sealing at floor, ceiling and wall junctions, and rubber or silicone gaskets in the frame.
A well-specified double-glazed acoustic partition with proper sealing can achieve 40–48 dB Rw. The weakest link is usually the sealing at the perimeter — poor installation can destroy an otherwise excellent specification.
Acoustic Partition Prices in Lithuania 2026
Single glass aluminium-framed partition (30–35 dB): from 65–95 EUR/m2. Acoustic double-glazed partition (38–42 dB): from 140–180 EUR/m2. Premium acoustic system with certified 45 dB: from 200–280 EUR/m2. For most Lithuanian offices, the 38–42 dB range offers the best cost-performance balance.
